Finding the Right Level – Why Neuro Heroes classes are designed the way they are
At Neuro Heroes, we know one thing for certain – there is no such thing as a “one size fits all” approach to exercise for people living with neurological conditions.
Everyone arrives with a different starting point, different challenges, different energy levels and different goals. On top of that, how someone feels can change day to day.
That’s why we’ve built our class offering to give people real choice, real support and the ability to work at the level that is right for them – not just in general, but on that specific day.
Why Levels Matter
Exercise needs to feel both achievable and challenging.
Too easy, and people are not progressing.
Too hard, and people feel left behind or lose confidence.
We want every person in a Neuro Heroes class to feel supported, appropriately challenged, and leave with a genuine sense of achievement.
Grouping people by ability makes this possible. It allows everyone to work at the right level, build confidence over time, and learn what effective exercise should feel like.
Getting You to the Right Class
We don’t leave this to chance.
Every new client completes an online assessment form, giving us insight into their condition, ability and goals. Our clinical leads then recommend the most appropriate starting classes.
As people progress, their class suggestions evolve too. We regularly support people to step down temporarily after surgery, illness or injury, and then build back up again safely. Equally, as strength and confidence grow, people are sometimes ready to move into more challenging classes.
This flexibility ensures people are always supported at the right level.
Real-Time Adaptation, Every Session
All Neuro Heroes classes are live and delivered in small groups via Zoom.
Our physiotherapists check in at the start of each session, respond to “anything to report” on the day, and adapt exercises in real time according to aches, pains or symptoms.
This means sessions are responsive, not fixed. Intensity, positioning and support can all be adjusted so that everyone can train safely and effectively.
Our Five Core Class Levels
We offer five main levels to support progression and keep training sustainable:
- Neuro Seated
The perfect classes for those able to exercise in a seated position. The classes will work you hard helping to build stamina and strength. - Neuro Enhance
The ideal classes for those looking for a mainly seated session but with some key elements done in standing. The classes will work you hard helping to build confidence and consistency. - Neuro Elevate
The best classes for those looking to do exercises in a support standing position. The classes will work you hard developing your strength and balance. - Movement Level
Precisely the right class for anyone able to exercise in standing without support. The classes will work you hard helping to improve your mobility and endurance. - Power Level
These higher intensity classes are perfect for those who can exercise in standing at a faster pace. The classes will work you hard while focusing on coordination and dynamic movements.
These levels allow people to progress over time, while also giving flexibility to adjust based on how they are feeling.
Condition-Specific and Inclusive
Some classes are open to all neurological conditions, creating a shared and supportive environment.
We also offer condition-specific sessions for Parkinson’s, MS, and PSP&CBD, allowing us to tailor sessions more closely to the needs of each group.
A Class Offering That Has Grown With Our Community
Our timetable has grown organically over the past five years in response to demand and the needs of the community we serve.
As our community has grown, so has our offering, ensuring we continue to meet people where they are.
More Than One Type of Exercise
Our main classes incorporate coordination, strength, fitness, core stability, balance, endurance, stretching, agility and functional movement. Alongside our core classes, we offer:
- seated yoga
- yoga
- seated Pilates
- beginner and advanced Pilates
- Functional Strength
For some people, seated yoga is the ideal place to start. It offers a gentle introduction for those with more limited movement, lower energy levels or who may not yet manage a full hour of more dynamic exercise. It provides an accessible way to begin moving, while also incorporating breathwork, which is beneficial for everyone.
Careful planning sits behind every session.
We do the thinking – you just show up.
Don’t Just Take Our Word for It
One of the biggest strengths of Neuro Heroes is the ability to adapt as people’s needs change – supporting progression, recovery and everything in between.
Neuro Heroes member Andrew explains this perfectly:
“I’ve moved between Neuro Heroes classes as my health and fitness have changed – from PD Power, to PD Movement whilst struggling with sciatica, then Neuro Enhance after spinal surgery, and now back to PD Movement and Functional Strength.
The instructors make every session safe and engaging, and this flexibility has kept me active, positive and confident. I’m aiming to return to PD Power as my strength and balance continue to improve.”
